RoHS Compliance Services from Tata Infotech
RoHS (Restriction of hazardous substances) is a directive issued by European Economic Union (EEU), which prohibits sale of new electronic equipment in Europe after July 1, 2006 if it contains more than trace levels of elements like Lead (Pb), Hexavalent Chromium (Cr6), Cadmium (Cd), Mercury (Hg), Polybrominated Biphenyl (PBB) and Polybrominated Diphenyl Ether (PBDE). The WEEE directive (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) is a complementary directive dealing with guidelines for disposal of waste products.
The initiative has now acquired a worldwide dimension with similar initiatives in China, Japan, Korea and United States. California and Maine have already enacted similar laws, which require goods sold in these states to comply with RoHS directive
