...Through this relationship, Montana will be able to provide better,
more efficient service to its citizens....
Realizing Goals
The POINTS system was designed as the foundation for a more expansive
information system that would accommodate additional state revenue sources,
such as income and property taxes. This system provides a basis to allow
the department in achieving its goal of integrating all of its 30 revenue
sources collected by the state over the next five years.
It also provides all staff a single entry point showing complete information
on each taxpayer. This single entry point allows department staff to analyze
data and track changes more efficiently thus allowing the state to provide
superior customer service. POINTS also facilitates consistent collection
of revenue, thereby moving the Department closer to its goal of processing
all returns and depositing all receivables within one business day.
"We have leveraged our knowledge gained from past tax and revenue engagements
to create an integrated system that meets the State of Montana's requirements.
Through this relationship, Montana will be able to provide better, more
efficient service to its citizens," said W. Stephen Mahle, Vice President
and General Manager, Unisys Public Sector.
A
Little Bit of History
Tata Infotech's association with Montana's Department of Revenue commenced
two years ago. Tata Infotech along with Unisys Corporation, were contracted
in April 1998 to design, develop and implement the Phase I of the POINTS
integrated system to enhance customer service and improve revenue collections.
Tata Infotech and Unisys began developing the integrated system in April
1998 and implemented the core system in December 1999. A team of over
sixty consultants worked on the Phase I of the POINTS project that was
developed over a period of 20 months in Montana and in Tata Infotech's
offshore development center.
After the successful implementation of "POINTS Phase I" in December 1999,
Tata Infotech and its partner, Unisys were commissioned to undertake Phase
II of the project. In Phase II, the state of Montana's existing tax systems
comprising of property tax, corporation tax and individual income tax,
will be integrated with the POINTS I system, which already has three different
tax systems integrated. The Phase II part of the project has already commenced
and will have over fifty consultants working in Montana and Tata Infotech's
offshore development center.
