Introduction of new products today requires
to be done with minimal time to market. Lack of a decision
support system can put many a telecom service provider in
danger of being out of the race. The need of the hour is to
meet the customers' challenges quickly and in creative ways.
Due to volumes and threat from competition, Telecom service
providers are ever on the look out for systems that help them
meet customer expectations and help them stay ahead of competition.
The Customer:
Our client is a very large provider of public
international telecommunication services in India, directly
and indirectly linking the domestic telecommunications network
across the world. They provide international telephone, telex
and telegraphic services and have international switching
and transmission facilities at several ("gateways")
locations in India which route international traffic to and
from the domestic telecom network using a combination of satellite
and undersea cable links. The company operates a network of
earth stations, switches, submarine cable systems, and value
added service nodes to provide a range of basic and value
added services.
Our client is committed to providing efficient
and cost effective world class telecommunications services.
The Challenge:
Our client was finding it difficult to cope with the core
issues that confront most big telecom providers. Some of the
issues were because of the time taken to introduce new products
in the market. Other issues were because of lack of information
to make decisions. Also revenue leaks in the form of bad error
CDR processing, revenue loss in the form of delayed and faulty
reconciliation between carriers added to their woes.
They did not have an effective decision
support system to help them to be competitive in the changing
and volatile telecom market. Due to their increased global
presence, our client was facing problems to settle their account
with other international carriers for traffic coming into
and going out of India. Thus a need was felt for a Traffic
Accounting System that would support both ITU as well as non-ITU
based agreements.
The Solution : Traffic
Accounting System
Tata Infotech was involved in a system integration project
that involved integration and implementation of the following
modules:
The Platform:
Interconnect Billing was developed using Oracle 8i as database
and on the HP-UX 11i operating system. Mediation system was
developed on HP-UX 11i. Accounting modules were developed
using SAP .
The Benefits:
Implementation of the integrated system enabled our client
to collect the Call Detail Records in a more efficient and
secure manner. The company has achieved better control over
revenues analysis of traffic data, which has helped in negotiating
with operators profitably.
