In order to be competitive, companies will
have to improve the operational processes they use to provide
new services. The demand for new and more sophisticated products
and services and the provider’s time to market will
drive this marketplace. A company’s ability to represent
and bill accurately for these newer and more complex services
will become a bigger challenge over the next few years.
The Customer:
Our Client, a Telecom carrier is a leading
provider of ISP and public telecommunication services in India.
They provide Local Access, Broadband, and Internet services
in multiple locations in India. They were the pioneers to
launch the WiFi and Hotspot services in India. Our client
has other services like Internet services, Cellular mobile
services, Wireless in local loop and digital loop carriers.
It hopes to soon set up other services like Fibre to Home,
fiber- 16 rings and Asynch-ronous transfer mode bandwidth
on demand and other intelligent network services.
The Challenge : SMS
Based Yellow Pages Service
Our client wanted to provide more and better services to
their valuable customers for the CDMA service to increase
their satisfaction level. They also wished to increase the
Average revenue per user (ARPU) for this service. In their
desire to provide unique services, distinct from their competition,
they decided to have a Natural Language based Directory service
on SMS. Directory services provides you the required information
on your fingertips. Apart from providing the service, the
client also benefited from increasing their customer contacts,
and thus increasing the overall subscriber base.
The Solution : Innovative
Wireless Application
Our Client needed a SMS wireless application, which allowed
the user to make a query in his own language to get the information.
They selected our Natural Language Processing (NLP) engine
to meet this requirement. NLP analyses the query into specific
key search words and depending on these worlds, a query is
made to the Yellow Pages database to get the records. Further,
these records are fine-tuned and sent as a response to the
user in three SMS messages. This application has been developed
using Oracle 9i, Java Servlets and NLP.
The client wanted the database copies to be decentralized
for all the cities, and needed them to be synchronized with
the main database on a daily basis.
Our Client was provided with the necessary software modules
and interfaces with their SMS Gateway. Input Servlet to process
the raw queries received from users was provided too.
The key search worlds analysis of the query by our NLP Engine,
was specifically developed for Yellow pages. Query processing
module that formulates queries depending on the output of
the NLP. module, collects the response, formulates the result
and sends it to the SMS Gateway for further delivery to the
user. The SMS Gateway is interfaced with the set of APIs provided
by the vendor.
The Platform:
The application was developed on Oracle 9i database running
on Windows NT operating system advanced server edition. The
Environment used Java and Java Servlets
The Benefits:
The client was able to derive rich benefits from the user
friendly information system which supplied quick information
and where there was no need to remember specific codes for
the SMS messages.
