SAP
Case Study 2: Application Enhancement
and application integration of a complex SAP R/3 version 4.6 C
implementation
The Customer:
A leading provider of packaged foods in North America
Technology:
SAP R/3 version 4.6 C
Customer Description
The client, a Fortune 500 company, is actively
engaged in serving consumer grocery retailers, restaurants and
other food service establishments. It has several established
consumer brands in the retail segment as well as products in the
food service segment..
The Challenge
The company has implemented SAP R/3 version
4.6 C. The modules installed are SD, MM, BW, TPM (SEM, CRM), FI
and Transportation. The other interfacing applications are Manugistics,
Logility, Oracle GL, Walker AP, PeopleSoft modules including HR,
Benefits and Payroll, and a few other legacy systems. The key
challenge of this implementation was to integrate all channels
and business units on to a common enterprise system. In addition,
the customer had a pending requirement for product enhancements
that had to be incorporated at the earliest.
The Solution
Tata Infotech currently provides maintenance
support to the client using the well-established onsite-offshore
model. Developers from the offshore base at Mumbai login in to
the development environment using a virtual private network (VPN).
The onsite team interacts with business users to identify and
gather functional requirements. The offshore team is responsible
for coding and development using coding standards followed by
the client. A standard procedure has been laid out to complete
the development and unit testing at the offshore facility before
handing it over to the onsite team for system and integration
testing. After the onsite team completes the testing process,
the system is rolled out in to production.
Customer Benefits
- Employing the offshore resource pool for development leads
to a significant reduction in elapsed time
- Using the onsite-offshore model results in a cost-effective
maintenance support system
